How To Efficiently & Effectively Use The Grass At The Range
Let’s talk turf etiquette—and how to make the most of your practice time without leaving a patchwork of divots behind.
We love seeing our guests get out on the grass and grind, but there’s a right (and wrong) way to do it. Respecting the turf helps everyone enjoy a better range experience, and it helps your game, too. Here’s how.
✅ Use the Line Drill
Instead of spraying balls randomly across the turf, use a linear pattern when practicing. Here’s how:
- Place your first ball and hit your shot
- Place your next ball just behind the first divot—no more than an inch or two.
- Continue in a straight line until you’ve created a single, clean divot path.
This drill minimizes turf damage, makes cleanup easier, and helps you groove consistent ball positioning.
🚫 Avoid the Scatter Pattern
When golfers move around the grass after every shot, it leaves a polka dot pattern of divots that take much longer to heal. It also wastes grass space and makes it harder for others to find a good footing.
Let’s keep our grass green and healthy by sticking to tight divot lines.
🔁 Rotate Practice Spots Smartly
Once your strip is fully used up, take a few steps to the side, not forward. Repeat the line pattern again. This keeps the surface consistent and gives previous spots a chance to recover.
